U.S. national parks are trying to solve their diversity problem
The United States' national parks "belong to everyone" — but not everyone is going.
The parks are welcoming more people than ever before — 292.8 million visitors in 2014 — but the visitors are 78% white and, at parks like the Florida Everglades, about half are older than 60.
To put that in perspective, according to the last census, 62% of Americans are white and 19.2% are over 60.
