Beijing grossed 4.9 billion yuan during CNY holiday


Beijing's tourism bureau has said that the city received nearly 9.2 million visitors during the seven-day-long Spring Festival holiday, a 1.9% increase from last year. Tourism revenue during that period totalled 4.92 billion yuan, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year.

The city’s temple fairs, traditional fairs held at large parks to celebrate the New Year, were among the most popular attractions for tourists. Some 9,80,000 people, an increase of 1.4% year-on-year, visited the Di Tan temple fair, the largest and the most historic temple fair in Beijing. Meanwhile, Long Tan temple fair saw some 700,000 visitors, a 7.1% increase from last year.

With winter sports becoming increasingly popular in Beijing, given that the city has won the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, statistics show that during the past seven days a total number of 84,000 people visited the many ice parks in Beijing.

The top destination was the NanShanSKI, located in northeastern Beijing, which saw some 18,000 people, a year-on-year increase of 1.8%.

Meanwhile, rural tourism, which combines traditional Beijing folk culture and modern culture, has also witnessed an increase this year. 820,000 people took folk tours around the capital city during the seven-day holiday, generating revenue of 850.4 million yuan, an increase of 9.9% from last year.

However, overseas tourism declined this year during the holidays. During the past seven days, travel agencies in Beijing organized over 4,000 tours overseas, involving 66,000 people. That was a decrease of 10.8% from last year. Japan and Thailand were the two most popular destinations among Chinese tourists.
