Liverpool are set to confirm Grujic as Jurgen Klopp's first signing |
Grujic, 19, would be Jurgen Klopp's first signing as
Liverpool boss since he moved into the Anfield hot-seat in October.
The Liverpool Echo report that Liverpool's move for the Serbian midfielder will be rubber stamped today.
The transfer has been subject to a work permit and he is expected to be loaned back to Red Star for the rest of the season.
Grujic,
who was part of the Serbia squad that won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup
in New Zealand in June, arrived on Merseyside for a medical yesterday. Klopp
was eager to snap up the Serb, with Chelsea and Inter Milan also
interested, and the German's personal intervention apparently persuaded
Grujic to move to Anfield.There
were late £7.3m bids from Russian clubs Zenit St Petersburg and CSKA
Moscow but Grujic claimed he was due to become a Liverpool player
yesterday."On 4th January I will become a Liverpool player," he said.Grujic has played for Serbia's Under-16s right up to the Under-21s, winning five caps for the latter in 2015.He's played 22 games for Red Star this season and scored five goals in the Serbian SuperLiga.
