Dr Bisimba in ICU ahead of surgery

President Dr John Magufuli consoles Legal and Human Rights executive director Dr Helen Kijo-Bisimba, who was admitted there on Sunday after being injured in a road accident.
The Legal and Human Right Centre (LHRC) Executive Director Dr Hellen Kijo-Bisimba was yesterday transferred to Intensive Care Unit at the Aga Khan Hospital ahead of a surgery procedure expected later today.

Speaking to reporters at the Hospital, the Aga Khan Medical Director Dr Mustaafa Bapumia said preliminary medical screening has revealed that Bisimba, who was admitted to the hospital having sustained serious injuries in the Sunday car accident, has diabetes and high blood pressure.

“So the doctors had to first treat the conditions detected before they could tend to the other injuries,” he explained.

“After being diagnosed, it was discovered that she got a femur fracture that needs to undergo surgery,” he detailed noting that the LHRC Director has been administered with pain killers and goes into surgery today.

“After completing all the procedures,” he went on to explain, ‘... the medical doctors in collaboration with the Surgery department headed by Dr Aurangzeb Qureshi will conduct the surgery after her family gives the go ahead,” he said.

“Our medical team and the surgery department are ready for the work...the procedure can be conducted at our hospital or even at Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI),” Dr Bapumia said.

Director Dr Hellen kijo-Bisimba was in a tragic road accident on Sunday on her way to church. Her vehicle was run over by another car that pushed her’s out of the road and caused it to overturn at least four times, this according to LHRC Director of finance and administration Ezekiel Masanja.
