Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal plots January move for the 'new Cristiano Ronaldo'
MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly preparing a move for the 'new Cristiano Ronaldo'.
Louis van Gaal is desperate to add to his attacking ranks at Old Trafford after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.
And reports in Spain suggest Goncalo Guedes is the man he wants in January.
Guedes, 19, has been impressive for Benfica this term and made his international debut for Portugal in November.
A
winger, Guedes has been described as the 'new Ronaldo', he became the
youngest Portuguese goalscorer in the group stage of the Champions
League in September.
Van Gaal
yesterday admitted he would need reinforcements in January after a lack
of goals have seen United go eight games without a win.
When
asked if the lack of attacking options has placed too much of a burden
on United's only recognised strikers Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial to
deliver goals, Van Gaal said: "Maybe you are be right but that you
cannot see in advance. The problem [lack of goals] can be solved with
money but also on the training pitch.
"We
are always looking for solutions. We are working on it in training but
scoring goals is a quality. We have that quality but, at this moment,
there is a lack of confidence at the right time. Or we need to buy
another striker."
