China promises to equip Tanzania media houses

The commitment was announced by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, Sports, Prof Elisante Ole Gabriel and Deputy Minister for Information and Broadcasting of China Mr Tian Jin after holding talks in Dar es Salaam.
Mr Tian said that the Chinese government would develop the existing relations between the two countries and promised to assist Tanzania’s government owned media houses.
The deputy minister stated that China would look on the possibility of assisting the government owned media houses through Tanzania Standard Newspaper Ltd (TSN) and Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC).
According to him, such assistance will focus on equipping the two media houses with modern equipment and providing frequent training to their staff.
“The Chinese government will do everything possible to look on the possibility of equipping the two media houses but also the possibility of training their staff to improve their professions,” he insisted.
Moreover, the government of China said that despite restriction on foreign trips made by the Tanzania’s government, yet China will make efforts to improve areas of capacity building and experience sharing.
On his part, Prof Ole Gabriel said that China has been assisting Tanzania in many issues of technology, equipment and culture.
Moreover, the PS underscored the need for the two countries to improve experience sharing plan for local journalists to undergo practical training in China. “It’ll be very important thing if we’ve plan for experience sharing, we can’t learn everything in classes.
But they will learn a lot while in China and this applies for staff of TSN, TBC and Tanzania Film Board,” he insisted. Prof Ole Gabriel asked the Chinese government to equip TSN and TBC with modern equipment as well as assisting the country in areas of technology taking into account speedy advancement of technology in the world.
The two countries have discussed on possible plans of training their linguistic experts as part of experience sharing whereas Chinese experts will come to Tanzania and their counterparts will go to China.
