Adidas chief refuels attack on Louis van Gaal over Manchester United's style of play
LOUIS VAN GAAL has come under renewed attack over Manchester United's style of play - this time from the club's kit manufacturers.
In comments that will antagonise the Dutchman, adidas CEO Herbert Hainer raised United's approach and said it was not "what we want to see".
United beat Swansea 2-1 at the weekend to end a run of eight games without a win which has brought Van Gaal's reign under intense scrutiny.
They have still failed to score a first half goal in nine games at Old Trafford and now adidas have waded into the ongoing debate over the perceived stagnant style of play.
The sportswear manufacturers replaced Nike as United's kit sponsors last year in a 10-year deal worth a mind-boggling £750m and while Hainer recognised the commercial benefits of the association he strayed off message.
"This success confirms again that Manchester United is not just a football club, with more than 650m fans globally," said Hainer.
"Without doubt, one of the world's most supported sports symbols. This special club has not only a rich history but also a reputation for success and the unexpected.
